My First T.O.W is on a sports novel named "Friday Night
Lights" The first half of this novel speaks in the likes of each
individual football player. Every player has their sanctuary and for these Odessa
Panthers, that field was where they strived the most. The book goes on to tell
the story in the perspective of the personal lives of the high school athletes.
Off the field these young men have had abusive parents, dying relatives, and
even marital issues. The book is describing the ride that this football team
had every Friday night and on these Friday nights the experience and
emotions they felt that this field gave them. The field was symbolic, the
field was a symbol of excellence and no matter where you came from or what you
are going through you put it aside to give all efforts to this field and never
give up. The author has used the rhetorical device, symbolism
to tell the amazing story of a fighting football team. The author was
able to connect to the audience and create real life passion and morals. The
author makes this novel surreal with the setting and the realistic behaviors
that come along with it. In 1998 the young men whom descended from Texas they
were tough, they didn’t follow social norms they had strong accents and most
importantly the desire to play football. The authors purpose is to inspire the
audience with an unforgettable come-back story that took the world by storm.
Friday Night Lights was written to tell the tale of young men experiencing everyday
life lessons just by playing the game of football. To struggle, to live and to
prosper is what the author wants the audience to take away from this novel, to
be able to learn that whatever we do, do it to the best you can; cause if you don’t
you will gain nothing.
