TOW #3

In this illustration there are many components, the hands reaching out emphatically to force President Obama to make rash decisions towards handling ISIS. The crowd yelling in exclamation to "do something" is emphasizing the idea that the people are looking to Obama to fix and get rid of ISIS, but as depicted in the picture it is trying to illustrate that Barack Obama isn't able to fix the reoccurring issue. He looks confused and nervous with the wires that resemble the ticking time bomb that is ISIS. Coming close to the visit of the Pope I felt that this prevalent issue should be overlooked just through this political cartoon. I believe this is logos because its reasoning of what we are expecting along with the reality.

Tow #2

For my second TOW, I did the sports illustrated article, Friday Night lights 25th anniversary. The follow up of this famous book and movie. The article talks about the brotherhood and the real insight of the experiences each player had. To me this article really proved that this story will always be remembered, I say this because after 25 years people across the world are commemorating the climb of a rural city football team playing in front of thousands of people. The article although may seem limited on information the men from this team spoke to sports illustrated, "I want to resurrect those memories, since I am now 60, when you forget far more than you remember. I hate going back in my life, and I am not a believer in nostalgia. But on the eve of the 25th anniversary of the publication of Friday Night Lights, I feel compelled to return. It was a linchpin moment of my life. The moment, to be honest." This article in my opinion makes the movie and book plausible, because you see the true reactions and feelings behind the players, and now after reading this article I was able to make all connections to the movie and book.

TOW #1

My First T.O.W is on a sports novel named "Friday Night Lights" The first half of this novel speaks in the likes of each individual football player. Every player has their sanctuary and for these Odessa Panthers, that field was where they strived the most. The book goes on to tell the story in the perspective of the personal lives of the high school athletes. Off the field these young men have had abusive parents, dying relatives, and even marital issues. The book is describing the ride that this football team had every Friday night and on these Friday nights the experience and emotions they felt that this field gave them. The field was symbolic, the field was a symbol of excellence and no matter where you came from or what you are going through you put it aside to give all efforts to this field and never give up. The author has used the rhetorical device, symbolism to tell the amazing story of a fighting football team. The author was able to connect to the audience and create real life passion and morals. The author makes this novel surreal with the setting and the realistic behaviors that come along with it. In 1998 the young men whom descended from Texas they were tough, they didn’t follow social norms they had strong accents and most importantly the desire to play football. The authors purpose is to inspire the audience with an unforgettable come-back story that took the world by storm. Friday Night Lights was written to tell the tale of young men experiencing everyday life lessons just by playing the game of football. To struggle, to live and to prosper is what the author wants the audience to take away from this novel, to be able to learn that whatever we do, do it to the best you can; cause if you don’t you will gain nothing.
